Ella is a picture postcard destination, where you can truly relax and
enjoy the life style of the charismatic mountain people with the
delightful background sounds of the waterfalls that make the area so
famous. You can also take a ride on the local train to one of the surrounding
areas and enjoy a station and style of travel unchanged since the time
of the British. Every day you can take a different walk from the tea factory to Lipton’s
Seat and take the tea pickers’ route up narrow paths, through emerald
tea plantations (40 minutes) or walk along the road (90 minutes). On the
way from Haputale to Adisham Monastery, buy a bag of delicious fresh
strawberries, walk through the forest and then wander around the
interiors of the house built for Sir Thomas Villiers in 1931.
